The Goldstein Museum of Design (GMD) advances the understanding and value of design through exhibitions, public programs, and a teaching collection of over 34,000 objects. As part of the College of Design at the University of Minnesota, GMD supports design literacy by connecting objects to ideas and pasts to futures. The museum is committed to object-based learning and believes that encountering design in physical form can spark curiosity, build empathy, and foster critical thinking.

Located on the University of Minnesota’s St. Paul campus, GMD is known for its rich collection of historic costume and global textiles, but our reach goes far beyond fashion. As we prepare to celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2026, GMD is undergoing a major renovation that will bring new life to our gallery and research center. We’re building a more accessible, flexible, and collaborative space for learning and creativity—one that honors our roots in material culture while embracing the future of design.
